  • Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a medical treatment used to address hair loss and promote hair regrowth. It involves the use of the patient's own blood to extract platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into the scalp in areas experiencing hair thinning or loss.

The platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors that can stimulate hair follicles, improve blood circulation in the scalp, and promote the growth of thicker and healthier hair. It's important to note that PRP is not a one-time, instant solution for hair loss, PRP  a series of sessions is required, and it is often used in conjunction with other hair restoration treatments, such as medications like minoxidil or finasteride.

  • PRP hair loss treatment can be effective for certain individuals experiencing various forms of hair loss. However, not everyone is an ideal candidate for this procedure. Here are factors that may make someone a good candidate for this treatment:

    1. Early Stages of Hair Loss: PRP is generally more effective when used in the early stages of hair loss or when the hair follicles are still active. It may not be as effective for individuals with extensive baldness or long-standing hair loss.

    2. Male and Female Pattern Baldness: PRP is suitable for both men and women experiencing androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male or female pattern baldness.

    3. Thinning Hair: PRP can be beneficial for individuals with diffuse hair thinning or areas of thinning hair, where hair follicles are still present but producing weaker or finer hair.

    4. Good Overall Health: Candidates should be in good overall health with no underlying health conditions.

    1. Consultation: During the consultation, you will discuss your specific hair concerns, goals, and medical history. The practitioner will assess your hair loss type and determine if you are a suitable candidate for PRP hair treatment.

    2. Blood Draw: A small amount of your blood is drawn, usually from your arm similar to a routine blood test. This blood sample is then processed in a centrifuge machine to extract the platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

    3. Preparation: The injection sites will be thoroughly disinfected and an optional local aesthetic may be applied to the scalp to minimise any discomfort during the injections.

    4. PRP Injection: The PRP is injected using a fine needle directly into the scalp in the areas experiencing hair loss or thinning.

    5. Sensation: You may experience a sensation of mild pressure or a slight burning or tingling at the injection sites, but any discomfort is typically minimal and temporary.

    6. Post-Treatment Care: After the procedure, you will be provided with post-treatment instructions. This includes avoiding washing your hair for 12-24 hours and refraining from vigorous exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating for a day or two. You'll also be advised to avoid sun exposure to the treated areas.

  • The timeline for seeing results from PRP hair loss treatment can vary from person to person, and it depends on several factors, including the individual's unique response to the treatment and the extent of hair loss.

However, here's a general timeline of what you can typically expect:

    • Initial Results: Some individuals may notice initial improvements in hair texture and thickness within a few weeks after their first PRP session. This is often due to enhanced blood circulation in the scalp and the stimulation of dormant hair follicles.

    • Progressive Improvement: The most significant changes usually become visible after a series of PRP treatments. A common treatment plan involves four to six sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. You can expect progressive improvement with each session.

    • Full Results: The full effects of PRP treatment for hair loss are typically visible around 3 to 6 months after the final session in a treatment series. During this time, you may notice increased hair density, reduced hair shedding, and overall improved hair quality.

    • Maintenance: To maintain the results achieved, top-up sessions are typically scheduled every 6 to 12 months, depending on individual needs and how well the results are sustained.

It's important to note that PRP is not a one-time, instant solution for hair loss. Patience is key, as it can take time for hair follicles to respond to the treatment and for new hair growth to become noticeable.

  • After your PRP session you may experience some minor side effects, including redness and swelling on your scalp. These effects are generally temporary and should subside within a few hours to a couple of days. Most individuals can resume the majority of their regular activities shortly after the procedure with no downtime.
